Sažetak
A software maintenance device (SMD) for an existing application program system (Aexist) including a plurality (I) of existing software program units (Pe) adds new software program units (Pn) or replaces existing software program units by new software program units whilst the existing application program system (Aexist) is running on a target system. Whether or not the newly added or replaced software program units operate correctly is tested by defining test messages to be exchanged between the software program units and by defining expected messages which should be the response to the test messages. An upgrading of the system is only allowed when the actual exchanged monitored messages coincide with the expected messages. Thus, the new software program units can actually be tested in the real target system with test messages of the real target system. Thus, testing and upgrading is possible when the system is in normal operation thus avoiding a testing of the upgraded system only in a test environment.
