Sažetak
During last year Croatian climatological atlas with 25 maps (CROCLIM ) of different climatological elements is being prepared (Zaninović K., Gajić - Čapka, M., Perčec Tadić, M. et al, 2008). The maps show the average values of the meteorological elements for the 30-years period. The resolution of the maps has been 1 km so it is comparable to relatively new and freely available WorldClim data set. This consists of the global monthly precipitation and global mean, minimum, and maximum temperature with the notification from the authors about the limitations of the precipitation maps in mountainous areas. During last two years, Croatian service was also involved in ECSN project “High resolution temperature climatology in complex terrain- HR-GAR", where mean monthly temperature maps in 1 km resolution has been prepared. For the CROCLIM maps (Perčec Tadić, 2009), the regression kriging has been applied ; with elevation, weighted distance to the sea, latitude and longitude derived from SRTM30 as predictors in regression model. In case that target variable has been sparsely sampled but strongly correlated with some other climatological variable, the later can be also used as a predictor in regression model. HR_GAR temperature maps (Hiebl et.al, 2009) are derived using multiple regression with elevation, weighted distance to the sea, latitude and longitude derived from GTOPO30 as independent variables. Final corrections for number of small scale effect has been introduced, e.g. sink hole effect, lake effect, coastal effect, urban effect). WorldClim maps (Hijmans et al, 2005) has been produced with ANUSPLIN-SPLINA program where data were fitted to a second order spline using latitude, longitude and elevation derived from SRTM3 and aggregated to 30” as independent variables. Territory of Croatia is interesting for its many climatic regions ; continental, mountains to maritime and also it is a challenge to capture all this variations on the basis of the limited set of observations. Here the advantages and limitations of our CROCLIM maps are going to be presented compared to the other two similar projects.
