It is known that even during the winter months the greenhouse irradiation heat gains at certain periods of the day often exceed its heat losses. Significant heat and consequently fuel savings can be achieved by storage of this surplus of irradiated solar energy. In this paper heat transfer analysis of the rock bed thermal storage unit has been given. The analysis has been done numerically using Hausens L-P method and the calculation is carried out for the modular solar greenhouse (40x10 m) situated in the North-Adriatic climatic area. The numerical analysis of the rock bed storage unit is based on the greenhouses daily and hourly heat gains and losses during the winter months using the Test Referent Year data. Furthermore, the storage unit thermal efficiency calculation has been given. Namely, thermal efficiency is the limiting parameter for the storage unit application and the basic parameter for the thermal energy storage unit optimisation.
