Sažetak
The aim of this immunohislochemical sludy was to examine the localion of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor (EGF-R) in the human endometrium. Endometrial biopsy and blood sampling were carried out on 66 infertile palients in sponlaneous cycles and 9 pacients undergoing gonadotropin induction. Biopsy samples were obtained by means of a Novak curette from the uterine fundus and prepared for bistological and immunohistochemical analysis and for light microscopic examinalion. Plasma levels of FSH, LH and estradiol were measured on cyde days 5and 10 and then daily until the deteclion of LH surge. All the patients in gonadotropin stimulated cycles (N=9) demonstrated out-of-phase endomelrium on the day of embryo transfer. Immunohistochemical studies revealed different staining paltems for EGF and EGFR depending on the endomeiriel maturity. In petients with early secretory transformalion there was a moderate number of posilive stromal cells, while in patients with mid-luteal secreiory tranformed endometrium there were numerous positive cells. On the contrary, many positive stromal cells for EGF-R were found in palients with delayed enodometrial pattem, while only fewcells were detected in palients with normal secretory transformalion of the endometrium. EGF and EGF-R immunostaining was rich in glandular epithelium of the regularly secreiory transformed etidometrium, white rare cells were found in palients with out-of-phase endometrium. In palients with stimulated cycles immunoslaining characteristics were simi1ar to those of delayed endometnum in spontaneous cycles. Our stady demonstrates different localizalion of EGF and EGF-R in endometrium of the infertile palients during the mid-luteal phase, depending on the endometrial maturity.
