Sažetak
With the aim of repositioning Croatian tourism, or attaining a better market position for Croatia, it is essential to improve the quality of the tourism product, in which the quality of employees has a key role. The observed trend of declining quality of services is partly a consequence of problems affecting secondary school education. On the basis of comparisons with neighbouring developed tourism destination countries and on the basis of surveys of experts, this paper proposes changes to the education process for the needs of tourism industry in Croatia. These changes primarily concern rationalisation of the school network in Croatia and improving the operation of schools, then revising existing and introducing new curricula, improving teaching quality and achieving successful co-operation between secondary schools and the tourism sector.
