Sažetak
The paper deals with the causes of changes in tourist demand in Croatia, in relation to the situation previous to war. Based on the analysis, a conclusion suggest travel into conflict areas is significantly influenced by distance and available information, than by price and promotive policy, but not by real safety. Three types of tourists have been pointed out, grouped according to their reactions. The first are the Western European tourists, whose reactions are very sensitive to the events in Croatia: a perception of Croatia as an unsafe country is proportional to its distance (the greater the distance from Croatia, the smallest ratio of return compared to the pre-war situation). The second group are tourists from New European countries, whose reactions are more pragmatic: since risk of holidays in Croatia is insignificant compared to the advantages, growth of demand has been recorded in comparison to the pre-war situation, independent of distance. Domestic tourists observe similar reactions.
