Sažetak
Historically speaking, the Mediterranean region has constantly been in the focus of world political, economic, social and cultural events. It is understandable; therefore, that with time this area has become the boundary of different civilisations, a conglomerate of social, political, and economic systems, a zone of different spheres of interest. For this reason, the Mediterranean basin has been, in the past fifty years, one of the world's trouble spots. However, in spite of the constant presence of instability in the region, the Mediterranean, according to international statistics, is seen as an extremely attractive tourist destination, accounting for over one-third of the overall international tourist arrivals. Even at times of crisis there have been no major turmoil's flow, with tourists being channelled towards the safer parts of the region.
