Sažetak
In discussions about possible alternatives to fossil and nuclear energy the geothermal energy of dry rocks is often cited as abundant and environmentally acceptable source of energy. In this contributionsome results of attempted quantitative estimates are presented.Several physical models of heat extraction have been used, corresponding to various assumptions of rock fracturing and water flow distribution. The applicability of these models is discussed with some conclusions about the possible energy output. Geothermal energy of dry rocks becomes attractive only under assumptions which are, at least at present, physically and technically unrealistic. Finally, the safety aspects of geothermal energy are discussed and serious objection pointed out.
