Sažetak
Background and purpose
The aim of the paper is to present the analytical results on the chemical composition of urinary calculi for the period 1999-1998, as well as to compare our results with some literature data from developed Western countries.
Materials and methods
3282 calculi obtained from the patients collected from all parts of Croatia were analyzed by infrared spectrophotometry.
Results
The overall sex ratio male to female patients was 1.52. The most frequent constituent of the calculi in both sex were calcium oxalates (~ 74%); phosphates stones were more frequent in female patients, while uric acids are far more frequent in male patients.
Conclusions
The obtained results were compared with the literature data from European countries and some considerable differences were not observed. The war years in Croatia caused two increases of sex ratio (male/female patients) in years 1992 and 1995, but the changes in the composition of urinary stones were not found.
