Sažetak
Malvasia delle Lipari, Malvasia di Sardegna, Greco di Gerace (Italy), Malvasia de Sitges (Spain) and Malvasia dubrovacka (Croatia) were so far believed to be different varieties. Nevertheless, they show the same simple sequence repeat (SSR) profile (15 loci) ; furthermore, morphological comparison among them brings to the same conclusion, i.e. they are synonyms of the same variety. This Malvasia variety spread by sea reaching islands or historicaly important Mediterranean Sea shores, moving even beyond the Strait of Gibraltar. Nowadays, it is limited to small areas, giving little wine production. The results of this work together with historical research showed that this genotype is a very ancient variety, with a high probability to be one of the oldest Malvasia cultivars scattered by Venetians during their trades in Malvasia wines in the Middle Ages or even earlier.
