Sažetak
Lake Vrana on the island of Cres is a world-renowned natural karst phenomenon. This paper analyses the hydrological aspect of lake system functioning as part of the insular karst aquifer as well as the related Lake Vrana protection from over pumping and pollution from the road, that is, the degradation of its extremely sensitive ecosystem. The necessity of establishing the active natural karst phenomenon protection model in relation to the sustainable development of the related social and economic community has been pointed out. By contributing to the community development with its water potential, the lake itself has become endangered by this very development and its existing technological level.
