Sažetak
This paper deals with the place and role of science in the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge as a contribution to the entry of the Republic of Croatia (RC) to join the European Union (EU). In the EU countries, systems for environmental protection and improvement, and in particular those concerning sea environment, suppose harmonious and inventive development of all mutually dependent scientific fields, including their engineering aspects. The reason for such development lies in common exploitation of the sea, thus obliging the parties involved, to protect its natural resources. An analysis is given considering the development of related particular scientific fields and disciplines as presumptions for proportioned scientific and technological development, within which developments of shipbuilding and ocean engineering are of major importance.
