Sažetak
People who live in poverty have probably experienced the feeling of exclusion, invisibility, not being heard and not having their place in society. Poor people may have a feeling they are not respected and seen as full human beings. Mobilization of both material and social resources in society is required to enable poor people to exercise their rights and to be respected. One of the most signicificant social resources is a specific relationship between helper and person in need of help and support). People who got out from poverty (who upgraded from poverty to middle class) indicate the importance of good relationship to helper, counselor, teacher, coach or important persons who took an interest in them as an individual. This paper will present results of the research done in Croatia in 2009, on assessment of satisfaction with social worker from the perspective of service users who are in poverty. Research participants are poor people who are users of social assistance in Centres for Social Work. Satisfaction with social worker refers to service user’ s assessment of relationship quality, involvement in decision-making, trust, companionship, cooperation and respecting their rights. Relationship between service user and social worker based on strengths perspective, empowerment, cooperation, trust, involvement and power sharing can significantly influence service user’ s feeling of respect and competence and act as one of the resilience factors.
