Sažetak
Using Foucault’ s concepts of "governmentality" and "discourse", this thesis questions how discourses used by different state and non-state actors shape the Croatian public attitudes on asylum issues and explores how strategies of governmentality are enacted. The media portraying and officials’ categorization presents asylum seeker in Croatian society as profiles who are in opposition to imagined national identity. Thus, in Croatian case the specific public response on these categorizations, or the lack of it, provides a tacit agreement for the interpretation and the implementation of the law in a particular way and results in the restrictive status-granting policies.
