Sažetak
In this contribution, we report on a structural study on a new family of six-membered aromatic rings bent-shaped polycatenar mesogens, in which the central elbow is a ketone, a tertiary alcohol or a methylene group (C=O→ CHOH→ CH2). This molecular design allows more flexibility between both arms, which can influence the mesomorphic behaviour and permits subsequent functionalisation of the banana and its potential incorporation within dendritic or polymeric frameworks. Increasing number of chains combines the ability of polycatenar molecules to form columnar phases with a bent-shaped core to obtain axially polar columnar phases.
