Sažetak
We present results of absorption measurements in dense superheated cesium vapor generated in all saphire cell. Due to a very effective thermal destruction of Cs2 molecules a number of diffuse and satellite bands appear around second member of cesium principal series lines close to 450 nm. We established no temperature dependence of two peculiar diffuse features. This points to the conclusion that they stem from the photon absorption into a very complex potential curves of Cs2 molecule at very large interatomic distances. The Cs principal series lines 6s1/2 -> npJ van der Waals broadening was experimentally investigated in [1]. Later on in [2] the self-broadening of the Cs npJ levels in the very far quasistatic wings was further studied and numerous satellite bands have been found for self-broadened principal series lines (n=8, 9, ..., 23) of Cs. These satellite bands usually arise because of the extrema in the relevant difference potential curves. In the present work we shall show how the superheating of cesium vapor in the all sapphire cell [3] can lead to the appearence of a few new spectral features in the neighbourhood of the second member of the cesium principle series. Their attribution to strange Cs2 molecule at very large distances will be discussed in the light of the most recent ab initio calculations. ________ [1] K. Niemax and G.
