Sažetak
Evidence is presented that killed murine myeloid leukemia (ML) cells, their nuclei or their cell-free supernatant provoke splenomegaly and death of syngeneic recipients, although with a little longer latency period than living cells do. Albeit ultraviolet (UV)- or X-irradiated cells could not induce leukemia (splenomegaly) in lethally X-irradiated mice only if bone marrow cells were injected simultaneously. Cell-free supernatant of non-irradiated, UV– or X-irradiated ML cells, and the supernatant of UV-irradiated cells irradiated further with 100 Gy of X-rays provoked also splenomegaly and death of recipients. These results suggest the presence of an acellular factor capable of inducing the malignant transformation of bone marrow cells. This factor is resistant to high doses of UV light or X-rays.
