Sažetak
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is one of the most common diseases of the oral mucosa. OLP is a chronic, mucocutaneous, autoimmune disease of unknown pathogenesis. It is well known that OLP lesions can transform into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and careful monitoring and early recognition of malignant transformation is of the utmost importance. Our previous study on OLP patients with erosive OLP revealed higher salivary levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha which may act as promoters in the process of carcinogenesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate levels of salivary and serum IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha in 30 patients with erosive OLP and to compare the results with 30 OSCC patients and 30 healthy controls. Preliminary results indicate they are involved in the pathogenesis of OLP and could be helpful in monitoring disease progression and early detection of malignant transformation.
