Sažetak
The phrase the stumbling stone in the division of types of oral prose that is connected in literature with the genre of legend (cf. Bošković-Stulli 1975) also described equally well the generic status of some folktales with or about animals. The story of the wolf and the kids, for example, is most frequently defined in literature by application of the thematic viewpoint (cf. for example, Aarne, Thompson, Uther 2004) as an animal tale. However, applying the structural perspective, Vladimir Propp defined the same story as a fairy-tale. In other words, following the initial situation (the goat and the kids) in the story about the wolf and the kids, one also encounters the abstentation of the older animal, then the interdiction, the antagonist (the wolf's) reconnaissances to obtain information about victim, the interdiction is violated, the kidnapping of a family member, the misfortune is made known, the search and, finally, the killing of the antagonist. However, the story of the wolf and the kids is also being approached more frequently in relation to its receptional specificity and, since the mid-20th century and the works of Marianne Rumpf and Paul Delarue, it is discussed as a warning tale (cf. Holbek 1987, Tatar 1992). Along with the relationship between form and content, genre and animals this paper will discuss the problems of the application of the thematic, structural and receptional perspectives on interpretation of Croatian children's literature corpus prior to the monographic institutionalisation of the fairy-tale genre in the 1880s.
