Sažetak
This paper deals with human interrelations and life satisfaction of persons with disabilities. It analyzes the attitude of socio-political environment towards persons with disabilities and tries to determine the influence it has on life satisfaction of persons with disabilities in contemporary society. There was therefore an empirical research carried out on a sample of persons with disabilities (N=397) who were directly asked about their satisfaction with the attitude of their socio-political environment towards them. The influence of the attitude of the State and social environment to life satisfaction of persons with disabilities is of enormous importance – there was a significant correlation established according to all variables in the analysis. The ones more satisfied with the attitudes of the environment towards them are at the same time more satisfied with their lives. The variable of life satisfaction was also tested with respect to a respondent’ s degree of disability. The results concerning the degree of disability are particularly interesting because this variable was shown to be irrelevant. It could be concluded that disability, even if of the severest degree, is something that persons can adapt to. However, (self)adaptation in the context of social relations does not seem to be possible. What is needed is active and continuous effort directed at ever better social inclusion of persons with disabilities. Consequently, (new) policy should not neglect the results of this and of similar research. Only positive strategies and attitudes towards all parts of the society can lead to citizens' life satisfaction.
