Sažetak
Recreational sport is not the opposite pole in comparison to the top sport, but it represents a continuum between top-level sport and leisure. It could be assumed that table tennis players competing in the higher levels of competition have similar motivation as top athletes, namely a pronounced motive for achievement and pronounced internal locus of control. On the other hand, it is possible that amateur table tennis players possess also specific relations between certain dimensions of the locus of control and motivation for achievement. This research is concerned with the following problems: to identify the correlation between the results in all dimensions of the achievement motives ; the correlation between the results in all dimensions of locus of control ; the correlation between the results in all dimensions of locus of control with all the dimensions of the achievements and the correlation between the years of experience in playing table tennis, sequence number of the league in which the player competes and chronological age with all the dimensions of locus of control and the achievement motive. The sample of 72 table tennis players competing in various table tennis leagues in SOKAZ, was tested using the questionnaires MOP2002 and LOK2003, during the summer of 2008. The results show that table tennis players significantly positively correlated two dimensions of the internal locus of control with each other, as well as two dimensions of the external locus of control. Significantly positive correlation is found between the two dimensions of the achievement motive that indicate a desire for achievement. Two dimensions that indicate the ability for achievement are significantly positively correlated, too. Dimensions that describe the ability to achieve success are significantly positively correlated with all the internal locus dimensions, and negatively with all the external locus control dimensions. Older, more experienced and more successful players have significantly higher accentuated dimensions of capabilities for success. The younger players have a significantly greater desire for success, and higher accentuated external locus of control. Suggestions for the future research have been given.
