Sažetak
Cybister tripunctatus africanus is a large water beetle belonging to the tribe Cybistrini Sharp, 1882 (Dytiscidae: Dytiscinae) which includes 135 species (Nillson 2001) distributed throughout low latitudes of the world (most of them in tropical and subtropical zones). From several genera of this tribe, only Cybister Curtis, 1827 occurs in Palaearctic region with 2 subgenera (Cybister Curtis 1827 and Melanectes Brinck 1945) and 6 taxa (species and subspecies) present in Europe (Nillson 2008). Most cybistrines occur in lentic habitats with emergent vegetation. Larvae and adults feed on other large insects, fish and anural larvae, or scavenge on freshly dead animals. Cybister tripunctatus africanus Laporte, 1835 is widespread in North Africa, Afrotropical region, Near East and South Europe, distributed in costal parts of Mediterranean. So far, in Europe it has been recorded in Albania, France (Corsica), Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Nillson 2008.). However, the last record is doubtful and should be checked. In Croatia there is commonly spread Cybister lateralimarginalis lateralimarginalis DeGeer, 1774, but this is the first known record of C. tripunctatus africanus from Croatia and one male specimen was collected in summer 2007, in the pond on the Island of Lastovo. Additional species collected in the pond were: Cybister lateralimarginalis lateralimarginalis DeGeer 1774, Hyphydrus aubei Ganglbauer 1891, Laccophilus minutus Linnaeus 1758, Noterus clavicornis (De Geer 1774). As biogeographically part of Croatia belongs to Mediterranean region, the record of C. tripunctatus africanus is expected and this finding completes the species distribution knowledge.
