Sažetak
The saddled sea bream Oblada melanura (Linnaeus, 1758), is common through the Mediterranean and Atlantic (from the Bay of Biscay to Angola, Madeira, the Canaries and Cape Verde Islands), inhabiting littoral waters above rocky bottoms, and Posidonia beds to depth of 30 m (Bauchot and Hureau, 1986). It is also common in the Adriatic Sea (Jardas 1996). This species doesn't spawn spontaneously in captivity. Spawning is especially problematic when captivity conditions differ from natural ones, (temperature, salinity, photoperiod, e.g.). In fish culture, spawning can be induced by environmental manipulation and/or exogenous hormone. In captivity, induction of spawning by hormonal treatment is necessary for species that do not spawn spontaneously. Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analog (LHRH-a) has been successfully used to induce ovulation.
