Sažetak
Sotin is one of the most important archaeological sites in Croatian Danube basin. It is situated 10 km to the s-e. of Vukovar. Although the area of Sotin is still inadequately explored, numismatic artefacts are often found during agricultural works. About 130 coins from Sotin belong to the pre-Roman era. The oldest one was minted during the time of Alexander III of Macedon. However, coin circulation in southern Pannonia flourished after the middle of the 2nd century BC. This is testified by numerous coins that belonged to the Scordisci. In addition to their standard Syrmian group of coins (Kugelwange), several example of rare eastern Slavonian group (Lierblume) have been found in Sotin. Silver coins belonging of the Magdalensberg type are also found there. Of special importance is one Celtic silver coin with unique presentation of a human figure. So far as it is known, this coin is the only of its kind. Drachmas from Apollonia and Dyrrachium were found in Sotin, as well as Roman republican coins. Since their exact finding spot is precisely known, they are very valuable if one is trying to determine the exact position of Celtic settlement which was the centre of Cornacates, southpannonian tribe mentioned by Pliny. Numismatic finds from Sotin enable insight into the structure of the oldest monetary system in the region between the rivers Danube, Drava and Sava. This system was substituted after the Roman conquest of Pannonia when uniform monetary system of Antique major power was introduced.
