Sažetak
An analysis of competitiveness of wind powered generators if built in Croatia has been investigated. The wind characteristics at suitable sites at 35 m height have been calculated by applying the Weibull wind distribution functions with altitude corrections as suggested by Justus. Among the candidate sites on the Adriatic coast, two sites have been identified as the most promising ones and analyzed in more detail. The avoided costs in the electrical power system, due to wind energy use, result from the fuel usage reduction during the operation of a wind powered generator. According to the analysis, wind power utilization at one of the sites with the best wind energy potential in Croatia, would presently be at the edge of competitiveness.
