Sažetak
Abstract There are same specific matters in the use of mine detection dogs in humanitarian demining in Croatia, and special task forces should be established in order to standardize certain segments in operational use of dogs. The first step in the work with dogs is their selection, and this step is necessary for future work. This paper will discuss the methodology of dogs training in our company, and advantages and weaknesses of each methodology. I have outlined the principles of the work with dogs according to standard operating procedures, and I explained advantages of a systematic verification of a mechanically treated area. In the work with dogs, medical care of dogs is essential. I endeavored to explain to a wider public demining with dogs, i.e. mine and UXO detection with dogs, from the viewpoint of a Croatian company. I have mentioned some proposals and thoughts about the current situationand of the changes which should be made with the aim of improving the methodology of using dogs in demining.
