Sažetak
Biochemical engineering is concerned with development and operation of biological production methods and with isolation and purification of products. Beside the impressive number of developed biotechnological processes and products, biochemical engineering developed also very powerful experimental techniques, mathematical procedures and software are able to produce and evaluate a vast number of experimental data. Therefore, what we call today biochemical engineering science can contribute significantly in every segment of bioprocess development, even in fundamental biological research. The development of complex models, which will be able to predict the physiological response of the microbial cell to possible pertubations in its environment, brings significant improvements in traditional and new biotechnologies. It will have special impact on understanding of molecular mechanisms of particular diseases and corresponding targeting strategy for development and production of pharmaceuticals.
