Sažetak
The decrease of FL in ESRD can be explained by competing reactions involving other modifications besides CML. Kidney damage results in the accumulation of different oxidants and electrophiles in plasma which can compete for the same lysine residues as glucose and as such can be the possible reasons for the lowering of FL levels in patients with damaged renal function. Lysine oxidation and reaction with lipooxidation products as well as dicarbonyl compounds formed by FL degradation and normal metabolism are part of, or overlap with Maillard chemistry. N-homocysteinylation and modifications with acyl glucoronides are possible competitive pathways to glycation in uremic patients.
