Sažetak
The Republic of Croatia has a significant geothermal energy potential. This potential is, in contradistinction to the most of the other "geological" resources in the country, insufficiently investigated and used. This paper is the review of the most important themes of the geothermal exploration in the World and in Croatia. A few hundred scientific and professional papers published in the world and in Croatia in the last 25 years were analyzed. According to analysis an agreement prevails that Croatia is currently under the level of developed countries regarding both the applications of modern research methods and cognizance of geothermal characteristics of its area. On the basis of the program of fundamental geothermal exploration of Croatia the same stage of development as in other European countries will be attained.
