Sažetak
A brief description of the main aspects and objectives of professional continuing education (CPE) for the LIS professionals in Croatia is given. The need for improving the knowledge and skills of Croatian librarians and library assistants is highlighted as well as the opportunities for co-ordination and systematisation of all efforts which have been performed from 1970s up to day. An overview of the results of the 1996 survey conducted among Croatian librarians and library assistants - members of the Croatian Library Association - is given and the most interesting data are presented in a way that shed more light on the state-of-the-art in the field of education and CPE in Croatia.
