Sažetak
Potato is the third main crop in Croatia. The most important insect pest of this crop are Colorado Potato Beetle (CPB) and soil insects. To control soil insects only carbofuran granulars are approved. The control of the CPB is troublesome by the widespread resistance to all OP, OC and P insecticides. Therefore the neonicotinoid insecticide imidacloprid appeared to be a solution to these problems. In the period 1996-1999 field trials were conducted by treating seed potato tubers with 6 different dosage rates of imidacloprid. The foliar treatments with one dosage rate of this active ingradient were also made. The trials were conducted on a big farm. A randomized block design with 4 replications was applied. The efficacy against CPB was established by counting larvae, by estimating the damage to the foliage and by measuring yields. All larvae were counted in the two middle rows of each plot. All results were corrected by using the Abbott formula. The effect on soil insects was registered at harvest. 100 tubers from each plot were collected at random and the damage evaluated. The results of these investigations are as followed: The seed potato tuber treatment with imidacloprid can not prevent damages caused by moderate or strong attack of wireworms during the whole vegetation. Some pretection can be achieved only in conditions of a low and (or) early attack. On the contrary the efficiency of the imidacloprid on the CPB is very high. The residual action of the highest dosage rate (350g a.i./ha)on the CPB larvae lasted 64-70 days and of the lower dosage rates (131-262, 5 g a.i./ha) 46-60 days after planting. The foliar application of imidacloprid is very efficient on the population of the CPB strains resistant to OP, OC and P insecticides. The efficiency on larvae lasts in average about 25 days what can provide a full protection from the first generation of the CPB. As the foliar treatment is usually applied 40-50 days after planting the loss of efficiency of both application methods occurs about 70 days after planting. Taking into account only the efficiency to the CPB, it is obvious , that due to high dosage rates applied by seed potato treatment, the foliar treatment should be prefered because of many ecological and economical advantages.
