Sažetak
The article elaborates the ever-growingg topis in today’ s information science community, that of the convergence of several information disciplines. Author approaches this issue starting from the presupposition that the convergence among "memory institutions" and their related disciplines has been highly provoked by the consequence of the emergence and use of networking information technologies and by growing demand for end-user to access and use the stored cultural heritage. The other point is that the diversity of the material included in library, archival and museums collections influences to the notable degree their basic characteristics and the organisation and management of their services. Also, libraries, archives and museums as public institutions have common social tasks to perform, they all have the obligation to select and collect different but often similar kinds of documents and apply similar professional procedures in acquiring, processing and organising their collections and information resources with a goal to be of the most benefit to users and to the society as a whole. Having all this in mind the idea about bringing together professionals from archives, libraries and museums together with computer and telecommunication professionals as weel as with scientists from the broader information sciences fiels, was born in Croatia almost five years ago when a domestic, later becoming international, Course entitled « Possibilities for Co-operation within the environment of the Global Information Infrastructure» was introduced. The main goals and achievements of these annual courses are discussed.
