Sažetak
More research in optimization of conservation models is needed in order to protect our local breeds. To achieve the long term conservation goal i.e. self-sustainability of the breed the ultimate goal of conservation should be an increase of profitability. In the same time we should take into account the old traditional breeding and management because the farm animal’ s diversity is in close relationship with biological and landscape diversity of Croatia in general. In fact, during the centuries the perfect equilibrium between the traditional husbandry and local environments has been achieved, which could be considered as good examples of ecological and organic agriculture today. In order to increase capacity for development and implementation of effective conservation programs the priorities are: - Providing a long term financial support of conservation plans and programs, i.e. change a common but wrong reasoning that the direct subsidy of farmers is sufficient for a successful conservation program. - Implementation of conservation action plans recommended by NSAP (National strategy and action plans of protection of biological and landscape diversity of Croatia) from 1999. - Formation of organizational scheme in order to obtain the global objectives in AnGr in Croatia - Creation of marketing strategy and action plans to promote Croatian breeds and their products in order to increase the market value of the breed products - Establishing of National genome bank(s) of AnGR - Formation of National foundation for protection of Croatian endangered breeds
