Sažetak
After Croatia become an independent country (1991) very interesting theater phenomena occurred. Religious medieval plays were staged all over Croatia! From 1945 till 1990 only six religious plays were staged mostly as “ reconstruction or research on heritage” or even parody. From 1990 till 1994 we staged 20 such plays – among them three newly written! This flourishing of religious theatre coincide with a war in the country and with a position of Croatia and our cities that looked alike medieval situation. So it looks as theatre was staging religious plays in the attempt to define our national identity and to protect it at the same time. When danger passed religious theatre went back to the churches.
