Sažetak
Dross inclusions formations in ductile iron casting, poured in Na-silicate bonded sand, were studied. The positions of the dross defects were always in the same area of the castings. The investigations at the shop floor include control of chemical analysis of melt, pouring temperature, share of bonding material in sand, different coating materials, application of filters and gating system design. For metallurgical investigation the specimens for microstructure examination were taken at a characteristic defects location. The quality analysis of dross inclusion “in situ” was carried out by scanning electron probe analyser. The precipitated phase were determined by X-ray diffraction. It was supposed that the dross defects were formed due to turbulence of the melt in the casting cavity. The application of fluid flow simulation with software programme MAGMA confirmed the presumption.
