Sažetak
This paper deals with the comparison between different sets of wind-tunnel test results and CFD numerical simulations of flow around the bare deck section profile of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Florida. Experimental tests have been performed at the Western Ontario Wind Tunnel Laboratory, Canada [1] and later repeated on a different section model at the CRIACIV Wind Tunnel Laboratory, Italy [2, 3]. The large difference between the two datasets (Fig. 1) was definitely surprising: for instance, at zero-degree angle of attack the measured dominant frequencies of vortex shedding are significantly different and lift coefficient is definitely positive in one case and negative in the other case. These discrepancies suggested the necessity to better investigate this case study through numerical simulations [4]. The flow field has been simulated using the non-commercial unstructured code Tau, developed at DLR.
