Sažetak
Oxidation of uric acid catalysed by uricase yields (S)-allantoin. The enzyme catalyses the electron transfer from the substrate to the molecular oxygen. The first chemical synthesis of an optically active (-)-1, 3-dimethylallantoin involves the ring-opening of the title compound. The configurationof the bicyclic intermediate has been used in assignment of (R)-configuration to laevorotatory 1, 3-dimethylallantoin. Crystal data: C16H28O3N4, monoclinic, space group P21, a=10.488(3, b=18.432(6), c=9.429(3)Angstrom, beta=90.63(2)degrees, V01823(1)Angstrom, Z=4, Mr=324.42, Dc=1.182(Mgm-3, mi(CuKalpha)=6.81(cm-1), lambda=1.5148 (Angstrom). The total of 6758 intensities were collected on an Philips PW 1100 diffractometer.
