Sažetak
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients treated by haemodialysis (HD) have increased intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery. The aim of the study was to analyse the relationships between different blood pressure variables and carotid IMT in ESRD patients on HD. Fifty-two (19 females, 33 males) adult patients on chronic maintenance (5, 65± 3, 29 years) HD aged 60, 88± 15, 49 years were investigated. Ultrasonographic studies were performed with 7.5 MHz high-resolution probe and common carotid artery IMT were measured bilaterally. Blood pressure was measured with mercury column sphygmomanometer at the beginning and at the end of the dialysis, and predialysis and post dialysis systolic and diastolic blood pressure values were obtained (pre- and post SBP and DBP). Additionally, predialysis and postdialysis mean arterial pressure (pre- and postMAP), postdialysis pulse pressure (pre- and postPP), difference between predialysis and postdialysis MAP (deltaMAP), and difference between predialysis and postdialysis PP (deltaMAP) were computed. There were significant correlations between carotid IMT and preSBP (r=0, 348 ; p=0, 006), postSBP (r=0, 367 ; p=0, 004) postDBP (r=0, 295 ; p=0, 018), preMAP (r=0, 244 ; p=0, 043), postMAP(r=0, 351 ; p=0, 006), prePP(r= 0, 402 ; p=0, 002) and postPP (r=0, 344 ; p=0, 007). Differences between subject groups with IMT >0, 82 mm (N=36) and with IMT<0, 82 mm (N=16) are demonstrated in the Table 1. There were significant correlations between blood pressure variables and marker of atherosclerosis in ESRD on chronic HD. This study demonstrated associations between IMT and different pre-and post-haemodialysis blood pressure variables.
