Sažetak
Background: In their adaptation after war, people who have experienced trauma have been offered a range of already existing and newly established services to reduce social and health consequences. Aim: Find out which services traumatized people themselves find helpful in their postwar adaptation. Methods: Community samples of war traumatized adults from war affected areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia were recruited through random walk technique. Through registers and snowballing, refugees from former Yugoslavia currently living in Germany, Italy and UK were also recruited. Matrix for the Assessment if Community and Healthcare services was used to record service utilization and perceived helpfulness of services. Descriptive statistics were used to report results. Results: 91% war traumatized persons used at least one health and/or community service. The average perceived helpfulness was significantly higher for health services, with general practitioners being perceived as the most helpful by both the populaton of refugees and those who did not leave the area. Conclusion: Users perceive health services as the most helpful in adapting after war. This finding should be taken into consideration when planning policies for war traumatised populations.
