Sažetak
The process of globalization is our reality and as a phenomenon becomes even more important in the new millennium. It is an answer to the dramatic changes of economical, political and technological dimensions of the world happening during the last few decades. It changes concepts of today's business, organizations and management, and reforms our lives and world enriching them with the global dimension. Globalization assumes interweaving different nations and cultures and mobility of all kinds of resources – financial, material, human and informational. Strong economies are creators and leaders of global changes and small ones, like Croatia, have to accept the rules of the global game. The global competition influences and changes both macro and microeconomic levels of a national economy. The objective of our study was to make the first step in the broad area of scientific research connected with global dimensions that affect Croatian economy. We tried to determine the actual microeconomic situation in Croatia initiated by globalization. Namely, we wanted to find out the influence of globalization on organizations and their management, Croatian managers' attitudes toward globalization, and what they really do concerning this issue. Croatian managers describe their organizations and management as "moderately global oriented". They believe that their organizations tend to be and increasingly become networks and learning organizations, people-oriented, customer-oriented, dynamic, environmentally friendly. As well they consider Croatian managers competent for the global business world. But, results of our research show as well that managers' perceptions significantly differ from the actual situation. Namely, objective organizational parameters such as stage of the global involvement, usage of ISO standards, actual environmental awareness, technological level and similar, strongly collide with the previously mentioned subjective parameters. We can conclude that Croatia is a small transition country, touched by global changes, but not yet aware of global challenges and opportunities. As well, Croatia, because of its economic and political instability, is not yet prepared for the threats of globalization.
