Sažetak
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), collectively termed non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) are the most common malignant tumors in humans. Basal cell carcinoma accounts for approximately 75% of all skin tumors. It grows slowly and metastatic spread is very rare. Squamous cell carcinoma is characterized by infiltrative, destructive growth and metastasis. Recently, the incidence of both of these skin cancers is arrising. The main reson for this elevated incidence in both sex is due primary to a sun exposure and depletion of the ozone layer, as well as novel trend of frequent visiting of skin tanning studios. We have analysed the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers in Rijeka region in a time period from 1994 till 2008. Similar to other authors we have found arising incidence throughout the period
