Sažetak
The ancient Egyptian collection in Zagreb with 778 inventory numbers, today consists of 2282 items. Nearly all the materials (1936 items) ogirinate from the big collection of antiques of the Austrian imperial and royal field marshal lieutenant Baron Franz Koller (+1826) formed during the ten years he had spent in Naples in imperial sevices. Koller had bought the Egyptian antiques from the Roman antiquary Lanci, who had them from the Greek Papiandripoulos. For a while the Koller collections were kept in the family castle in Obrist, and afterwards in Prague. The Greek and Roman antiquities were bought for the Berlin Museum by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and are kept there still. The first one to raise the idea of buying Egyptian antiquities for Croatia was the countess Elisabeth Drašković in 1866. In 1868 a large number of patriots, led by Franjo Rački, the President of the South Slavic Academy od Science and Arts in Zagreb, and Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer, managed to gather the sum of 3000 florins, which was demanded by Baron Alexander Koller, Franz's son, instead of the estimated 7000, and so the collection was brought to Zagreb in April 1868. Koller's collection nearly was purchased in Leipzig. - The first one who elaborated Koller's collection was the famous German egyptologist Heinrich Brugsch in 1869, and the catalogue was published in 1971 by Janine Monnet Saleh. - The collection also contains items of different origin. The famous Zagreb mummy and the bandages that go with it (Liber linteus zagrabiensis) are triple unique in the world, heritage of The Noble Michael Barich (+1859), brought to Zagreb in 1862. Other donators were: the historian The Noble Ivan Bojničić of Knin, the British orientalist Sir Richard Burton, the egiptologist Heinrich Brugsch, the arhaeologist Josip Brunšmid, Prof. Siridion Brusina, Ms Dall'Asta from Rijeka, the pharmacist Finkh from Zagreb, Dr. Fran Gundrum from Križevci, Cardinal Archbishop of Zagreb Juraj Haulik de Varalya, Dragica and Dr.Ivan Havliček from Novi Vinodolski, Dr.Petar Karlić from Zadar, the governmental secretary The Noble Gustav Koritić, Mr. Jordan from Cairo, Ferdinand Pleše, parish priest in Fužine, Major Mijat Sabljar, Gymnasium in Senju, The Noble Milan Tompa, M.Valjato from Kraljevica, and a few items were bought with the Lanza collection in Split and newly from other individuals. The exact sites where they were discovered are not known, except of the five ushabtis found in Salona and one found by Giacomo Gilarci near the Great Pyramid at Saqqara on April 15th 1817.
