Sažetak
The main aim of this study was to critically evaluate available experimental data on dermal absorption of petroleum hydrocarbons (PH). Furthermore, comparisons of the permeability coefficient (Kp) and maximum flux predicted by QSARs were made with experimental values obtained from aqueous solutions, neat hydrocarbons and petroleum products. The absorption rates of PH from aqueous solutions considerably overestimated those from petroleum products emphasizing the need for absorption studies carried out under “ in use” scenarios. The maximum flux that defines the highest dermal exposure risk for a chemical, and QSARs based on this approach may offer a better approach to dermal risk assessment of highly lipophilic PH.
