Sažetak
This paper analyses investment funds in Croatia form their beginning till today. First investment funds on Croatian market were formed during the process of privatization, in the 90s, as closed-end funds for investing privatization vouchers. Open-end investment funds’ history begins few years later, regulated by the first law about investment funds. As much more interesting and popular, the focus will be on open-end investment funds. The analysis starts at the base for development of investment funds, and describes the trend in number of open-end investment funds during last decade. Funds will be divided in four categories, according to their asset structure: equity, mixed, bond and money funds. Each of these categories will be analyzed separately, with the accent on growth, size and yield. It will also be analyzed the relationship between the yield and the type of fund. Equity funds have the greatest yield, but are at the same time the most risky. At the end we will give the approximation for future development of investment funds. Also there will be a discussion about main elements that investors should care about by making a decision to invest in an investment fund. This paper ties together the experience of Croatia regarding open-end investment funds development, and because of this, it will be useful for anyone interested in investing in funds. Special valuable the paper will be to those who have no experience with investment funds or live in an area where investment funds are still very little known.
