Sažetak
Can architecture and urban development do anything to counteract the present forces - the omnipotence of commerce, the atomization of society? Most changes we see in practice are the direct result of three fundamental forces that have altered the context for cultural heritage' work and that are changing the ways how we think about it. These contextual forces are: digital technology, environmental concerns, technological change in the building sciences, and globalization. Another issue affecting heritage today is the universal demand for everything to be "sustainable." Meanwhile, sustainability has become a political category, and therefore it is getting harder to think about sustainability without becoming ironic.
