signals resolutions method; azo dyes

Sažetak
Various dyes are used as food additives to enhance visual effect or to make the product more appealing. Commonly used synthetic azo dyes are potentially toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic so their application is governmentally regulated, and amount used should be controlled. Several analytical techniques are used to determine concentration of analytes that require additional preparation steps of the sample, or mathematical operations. Signal resolution method was developed for electrochemical signals (1). It is modified to resolve spectrophotometric binary mixture signals of most commonly used synthetic food dyes, and to simultaneously determine concentration of both analytes. Method was firstly tested on mathematically simulated models of Gauss functions to define criteria that need to be met to get plausible results. In order to use the method for resolution of overlapped Gauss curves with peak to peak separation of 10 nm or more, the ratio of amplitudes should be less than 1 : 10 and the width of Gauss curves must be different. Method could be potentially used to resolve the overlapped absorption spectra of real multianalyte systems.
