Sažetak
There are a great number of models dealing with this reading and writing, among which the cognitive models of reading and writing are the most frequently mentioned. According to these models, processes of reading and writing are complex cognitive activities that require interaction of visual, linguistic, motor and perceptual systems for normal performance. Authors of cognitive models assume that reading and writing can be divided into central components that include deeper, more linguistic processes and peripheral components that include early stages of visual analysis in reading, and conversion of abstract ortographic information into movements of pen in writing. Any damage of these components or their connections can cause reading and writing disorders known as alexia/agraphia. They refer to acquired disorders of these skills in persons who had been fully literate prior to the injury. The participants in this study were 30 adults with different brain damage etiology (traumatic brain injury – TBI and cerebrovascular insult – CVI after which Broca's aphasia occurred). A test with reading and writing tasks was constructed to reveal certain disorders of reading and/or writing, which are due to the early mentioned cognitive model also divided into central and peripheral types. The results didn't indicate any specific reading/writing disorder in patients with TBI, although their performance on the tasks wasn't completely satisfying. The results of CVI patients didn't show the existence of specific type of disorder, but their performance suggested that they had more problems in central (linguistic) components of reading and writing processes than patients with TBI.
