Sažetak
Prohibition of the use of force is the imperative norm of customary international law. The only exception to this rule, as far as unilateral use of force is concerned, is the right of individual or collective self-defence according to Article 51 of the UN Charter. Beyond the use of force in exercising the right of self-defence, states can use force only upon authorization of the UN Security Council.// In this article the author deals with the question whether the legal concept of self-defence changed after the terrorist attacks on the USA on September 11, 2001. In other words, has international terrorism changed the basic rules of international law on the prohibition of the unilateral use of force and the scope of the right of self-defence as the only exception to that rule.
