Sažetak
Supported by research, and following the recommendations and resolutions of World and European educational policy makers (UN 1994 ; UNESCO 1994 ; Council of Europe 2003) as well as the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), many countries have complied with the demands to change: the procedure and methods of early intervention, the way parents of deaf children are informed about deafness, and the deaf education policy. The Croatian system of education of deaf children from early intervention through pre-school, elementary, and secondary school, has not changed its view on deafness as pathology. There are no bilingual-bicultural educational programs in Croatia. Moreover, Croatian Sign Language (HZJ) is not yet recognized as an efficient tool for development of communicative abilities, literacy and other academic and psychosocial abilities in deaf children. But a few changes in tradition are becoming visible. There are several cases of educational interpreting for young deaf students in the course of their regular education. Throughout these students’ education, the interpreter plays the role of the middleman for the deaf student not only in the transmission of knowledge and other educational information, but also in different school communication settings. In this poster presentation, deaf students’ attitudes towards educational interpreter will be discussed, and also attitudes of the sign language educational interpreters towards interpreting process.
