Looking at some of the diverse images of winged creatures produced from early Anglo-Saxon England through to Carolingian Croatia, this section uses iconographic analyses to shed new light on these forms. Ravens, griffins, and winged evangelist symbols are considered for their potential as bearers of significant symbolic meaning
